  • | Saturday | 25th May, 2024

Professor (Dr) Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, inaugurated a state-of-the-art 3D bioprinter in the Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Translational Medicine on 24.05.2024, heralding a new chapter in the institutes history. "With the introduction of this cutting-edge technology, we are poised to find cures for many previously incurable diseases," said Professor Singh. "This is an important step, especially in the fight against fatal diseases like cancer."                                            The 3D bioprinter, acquired under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund from the Vardhman Group, utilizes an advanced manufacturing process to create three-dimensional biological structures. This is achieved by layering bio-ink composed of living cells and biomaterials. The potential applications of 3D bioprinting are vast, spanning regenerative medicine, pharmaceuticals, and biomedical research.                               Professor Singh elaborated on the capabilities of the 3D bioprinter, explaining that it can create human tissues, such as skin, which previously required organ donation or surgical extraction. "This technology allows us to generate living tissues like blood vessels, bones, heart tissues, and skin. It is particularly revolutionary for regenerating bone and skin tissues, offering new hope in treating severe conditions like cancer."                   Expressing gratitude to the Vardhman Group, Professor Singh acknowledged their vital role in this achievement. "Their generous support under the CSR initiative has enabled us to set new benchmarks in healthcare. We look forward to continued collaboration to enhance our health services further." S Pal, Director of the Vardhman Group, and other officials attended the inaugural event. Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Additional Professor and Head of the Department of Translational Medicine, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the transformative potential of 3D bioprinting in shaping the future of healthcare.               This facility at AIIMS Bhopal is the first of its kind, positioning the institute at the forefront of medical innovation and research. The 3D bioprinter is expected to significantly advance the capabilities of AIIMS Bhopal in providing cutting-edge treatments and improving patient outcomes.
